TWU International President Harry Lombardo has called an Ebola safety and preparedness summit meeting of local leadership, International Representatives, and Safety Reps for this Thursday at the TWU International Headquarters in Washington, DC.
Up until this point, TWU Divisions have been engaged independently at all levels in protecting the interests and safety of the membership. The express purpose of this broad summit meeting is increased efficiency through coordination and resource-sharing. Ongoing efforts will be overseen by a dedicated Task Force.
The three-pronged focus of Thursday's leadership and Task Force summit meeting will be 1) centralizing Ebola virus safety and risk information, 2) coordinating local awareness/preparedness efforts, and 3) developing a unified TWU action plan for disseminating accurate and up-to-date information to members.
A targeted, organized approach to confronting this growing health concern is imperative, as tens of thousands of TWU members work in direct, immediate contact with the public.
This week's meeting will bring together leadership from all TWU Divisions with expert authorities to coordinate strategy in addressing current concerns.
At every turn, leadership is working to address all areas of member risk, so that every single TWU member can go to work armed with the most accurate and useful prevention information available.
Since the emergence of the threat, TWU locals have worked closely with employers to inform members of heightened safety protocols and resolve member concerns. Our local leadership teams have weighed in on numerous industry conference calls, and been engaged daily in sharing of safety information with allied labor organizations.
TWU Reps are committed to making sure that our employers observe all contractual and emergency health and safety regulations. It is the union's first and last priority to ensure that members come home safe to their families every day after work.
Please check back for forthcoming updates, and inquire with your local leadership for further information.
Brothers and sisters, stay safe!
