1. Trial Update: At this week's Executive Board meeting we discussed the trial committee's report submitted to me and discussed by the Executive Board as outlined in the T.W.U. Constitution. After discussing those findings the Executive Board imposed the following penalties on Brothers Marting and Bartucci. Both members were declared ineligible to hold any office or appointed position in the Local or International Union for a period of 3 years and both were removed from office in accordance with Article XX, Section 7 of the TWU Constitution. The Executive Board felt is was necessary to fill one of the vacated positions as we currently maintain a quorum to conduct business by the slimmest of margins. Legislative Field Coordinator Chris Biancalana was appointed to the Executive Board. The Executive Board will meet this week to fill the other remaining vacancy in accordance with the TWU Constitution and Local 512 bylaws.
We are in the process of determining the best way to communicate these changes and their circumstances to the membership and will have a plan for that later this week. For now we will continue to conduct the business of the Local as we have since early July.
These developments are nothing that we have taken lightly. It's been hard to review and determine the best course for this Local in light of what has transpired. We are dedicated to serving the membership and seeing that this Local remains the viable entity it has become.
If you have any questions, please call the office and speak to an Officer.
2. Republic Airlines update: Last week, I mentioned that Republic Airlines was offering it's Pilots it's "last, best and final offer". The Teamsters (who represent the Pilots) stated that the proposal did not meet the requirements to fulfill it's requirements under their constitution to be a last best offer and would not send it out for a vote. 3. NLRB makes it easier to Unionize. In a long awaited decision, The National Labor relations Board (NLRB) has made it easier for contract workers and franchisee workers to unionize. The board changed the definition of a crucial employer-employee relationship that has been around in some form since the Reagan Presidency in the early 80's. Many businesses were able to use this loophole and considered their employees as contractors and didn't have to conform to the regulations involving Union drives for representation. 4. Staff Admin changes: In September, the company will switch systems that handle CS's and OT. Effective immediately, you won't be able to enter CS's for any date after September 26th and starting September 9th you will access the new system through JetNet. This change may cause some headaches and while Rob Koval signed the letter he must have forgotten to place his phone number on the letter. Rob's number is 1 773 686 5369. If you experience problems with this system please contact him. The letter is attached to this post.
