1. A new United: With the change in senior leadership at United there seems to be a change in culture within the company. Last week a contract extension was reached with United's Pilots. While a contract extension is not very big news usually, it happening at United is a bigger deal. While there is widespread labor unhappiness with unresolved contracts at the carrier since their merger with Continental, this signals a significant change within the carrier because the extension was reached relatively quickly and without a lot of fanfare. 2. Negotiations Update:This Thursday the TWU along with the IAM will start meeting with representatives from the new American to negotiate the first joint collective bargaining agreement (JCBA). Any news on these events will be sent to those who have a registered, non AA domain, email address with the Local and will be updated on the Locals website as well. Any relevant and verified information will be passed along as soon as we receive it.
3. Buses and timeclocks: We have received multiple reports within the last ten days about the bus service and the time clocks at K19. We have had conversations with the company on both issues and are waiting for improvements on both. Some of the senior managers have been out of the office on vacation this week making it difficult to get resolution on these two basic needs. Decent bus service and working time clocks are not that much to ask for from a company that continues to post record multi billion dollar quarters. We will continue to try and get these issues resolved. If you experience problems with one of these issues, please call the office and speak to an Officer.
4. 2016 Election Update: As multiple candidates vie for their party's nomination for elected office in next November's general election, more information about potential candidates has started coming out. The links below deal with Hillary Clinton and her challenge to attract Union support and union voters. Her history as a board member for Walmart and links to big business call into question how much of unionized labor' issues she can champion. Please click on the links below for more information.
