We met with the company today to discuss the 2017 vacation slot allocation. While we had a long list of wrongs we wanted to address, the company was less than motivated to address some of our concerns. Here are the changes to the original allotment:
The company was not going to add any additional slots to the original amount of slots offered and any adjustments had to be made within the confines of what was already offered. The original proposal allocated the most vacation slots in April, which is where one of the issues has been. The company agreed to push the spring bid back to April 29th instead of April 15th which freed up the slots needed to make an adjustment. The slot reductions in weeks 16 and 17 (April 15th and 22nd) were re-allocated to other weeks. Since their original proposal had already added slots later in the year (weeks 36 through week 42 saw a 10 slot increase per week) we tried to add slots earlier in the year. After lengthy discussion the company would not move from their psotiion in regard to the slot allocation in January, February and March. They stated that with the increase in deicing headcount they didn't have the headcount to cover additional vacations in that part of the year and to cover an increase there the company would have to hire more employees which they are not interested in doing. Here's where the additional slots from the April reductions were put:
Week 22 (Memorial Day) will see an extra 16 slots
Week 35 (Late August) will see an extra 21 slots
The rest of the slots were added to weeks 18 through week 34 with each week seeing an increase of 6 slots per week.
This plan is not perfect and we addressed as many of the shortcomings as we could. It does offer some relief and there is no real way to determine if this plan will be any more effective than the plan the past couple of years. If you have any questions, please call the office an speak to an Officer.
The revised FT vacation slot allocation is attached to this post.
