Dear Brothers and Sisters,
On behalf of the Officers and Staff at TWU Local 512, I would like to wish you all the best on this Thanksgiving Day. As we are now in the holiday season, things just seem to get a little busier for us all. We hope you have time to spend with your families and friends, and enjoy what the season brings. While we would all like to just sit back and relax, the reality is that we work in a busy place. As such, allow me give you a quick note on the two main topics of conversation:
Contract Negotiations: The Executive Negotiating Committee will meet with American Airlines over the weeks of November 27 & December 4 in the attempt to close out the open and non-economic issues in the Maintenance & Related groups. The entire Negotiating Committees will meet in Dallas the week of December 11. The talks for Fleet Service are expected to be concentrated on the Scope language. The economic talks for all groups will follow agreements on the non-economic issues. As this is historically the time when negotiations get wrapped up, it is also the most difficult. Your patience and support are appreciated as we enter this phase in the process. The entire Negotiating Committee remains unified and is focused on bringing the membership an industry leading contract.
Equity Distribution: Understandingly, everyone wants their money. In this holiday season, we could all use it. There are two main issues that must be resolved before the money can be distributed. First, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) must determine the tax liability that will be assessed on the investment earnings of these funds. Secondly, the actual distribution process must be determined. The initial distributions were given to you through American Airlines payroll, but the final distribution may be different. The International is working on this, and it is a priority. As soon as information is available, it will be passed along.
Again, best wishes to you and your families today and throughout the Holiday Season.
Fraternally,
Tim Murphy
President
