1. Early Christmas at Delta: It seems that the leaders at Delta truly want their employees engaged in their success. They announced on Thursday they would give their employees an early profit sharing award and they would also give out raises next year. They referenced the record profits they are seeing and expect to see this year. Meanwhile at AA HDQ, not a word is coming out on rewarding those who have sacrificed so much to see this company prosper. So much for "improving the management labor relationship" CEO Parker says will help this merger along in becoming the best airline in the world. Association of Professional Flight Attendants head Laura Glading, when hearing of the news, went back to the company to seek more compensation for the recently agreed to contract and negotiated for more compensation for her members. 2. Equity Distribution update: Earlier this week I sent out a letter updating the current status of the lawsuit against the TWU that's holding up the rest of our equity distribution. As we wait for Judge Chhabria's ruling on the TWU's motion for summary judgement seeking dismissal of the frivolous suit against the TWU I found his hearing calendar on the web. The link to it is below and the only hearing on his calendar regarding the equity distribution lawsuit is scheduled for Nov. 4th at 1000. You can click on the link to keep up on when there may be some more information from Judge Chhabriaon this case .
3. CEO pay gap increases: While corporate greed has become a common theme in today's world; we may not have realized how bad it's gotten. Most worker's think that CEO's make about 30% more than workers when the gap is actually 350%. In an election year it is important to get out and vote for labor friendly candidates. We cannot sit idly by and watch this gap get bigger. We must show up at the polls and work to get labor and middle class family friendly candidates elected. Please click on the link for more details.
4. United decreases it's winter schedule: United will shrink its winter schedule by about 6% this winter. Many of the reductions will be seen at NRT and IAD. United will use the downtime to do extra maintenance and get more training done. This decision is in stark contrast to what the other carriers are doing. Please click on the link for more details.
5. Title III shift bid: Last week we presented the company a proposal to eliminate the crossover shifts on gates for the next shift bid. This week manager of administration Rob Koval said it was a good idea and wanted to implement it.....in March. While our proposal wasn't perfect it addressed the company needs and instead of engaging us in a face to face meetings they "ran charts" and buried us in paperwork that they said justified their decision not to eliminate the crossover shifts. They cited a lack of coverage in support for their decision. Their justifications go in a circle and there's never an end to their rationalizations.
The Crew Chief bid will be posted on the Local 512 website this weekend. Look for the link on the homepage. When the FT FSC and PT FSC bids are finalized those will be posted as well.
